Stylish, high-end, innovative and environmentally friendly, Ocean is an electric car full of emotions.

This is the production version of the Fisker Ocean SUV.

We saw the concept version of the Fisker Ocean EV car for the first time at CES in 2020, and the production version that debuted on Wednesday looks very familiar. As the name suggests, this stylish family truck was created under the supervision of automotive industry veteran and design legend Henrik Fisker. He is the co-founder, chairman, CEO, and even chief designer of the new company. He wears more hats than a kitchen full of chefs.

As one of the most sustainable and innovative vehicles, Ocean is equipped with many clever amenities, partly made of recycled materials, and even equipped with a rotating infotainment screen.

From recycled materials to vegan leather to rotating infotainment screens, Ocean’s cabin has a lot of excitement.

Ocean is about 6 inches longer than Honda CR-V, and its wheelbase is about 10 inches longer than Honda CR-V, so it is a bit like a "tweener". The vehicle is built on a platform originally developed by Magna Steyr, which has a long history of assembling vehicles for various automakers, but Fisker has made extensive modifications to the foundation. According to Henrik Fisker, about 90% of them have been changed. Nevertheless, starting from the existing architecture saved a lot of time and helped Fisker develop this vehicle in about two and a half years, instead of the usual four years. In addition to this, this means that car owners will have access to more advanced technology than usually available in new cars, as delivery times are significantly shorter.

One of the iconic features of this car is the Revolve infotainment display, which should have the highest resolution display in the automotive industry. At 17.1 inches, it's definitely huge, but it's not the most ingenious technique. This screen actually rotates on the dashboard, changing from portrait to landscape, the so-called Hollywood mode. The former is designed for use while driving, while the latter allows you to watch movies or consume other content while parking.

Many components of Ocean's five-seater interior use recycled materials, demonstrating its environmental protection credentials. For example, all carpets are made of used fishing nets and plastic bottles. Many other interesting materials were used, including vegan leather.

The design of the ocean is clean and relatively modern, even if it is vaguely reminiscent of what modern cars do these days.

The front-wheel-drive Sport model is the basic configuration of Ocean, equipped with a lithium-ion phosphate battery manufactured by the Chinese company CATL. This electronic reservoir has enough juice to provide an amazing 250-mile range. The high-end all-wheel-drive version of this SUV is equipped with a Hyper Range CATL battery, which uses a nickel-manganese-cobalt chemical composition. Depending on the model, a single charge can provide 340 or 350 miles.

But why provide two battery packs? Fisker explained that this is because the company needs to reduce costs. Entry-level models will be more affordable than you might expect, and their prices can compete with many mainstream SUVs today, although high-end Oceans will firmly enter the luxury sector.

The Extreme and Ocean One trims demonstrate their environmental credentials, using the SolarSky roof, under ideal conditions, can provide up to 2,000 miles of additional distance to the sun each year. In less favorable circumstances, it can still provide you with 1,500 miles a year for free, which is nothing to sneeze.

As for performance, the basic model uses a single electric motor to power the front wheels. It provides 275 horsepower, enough for the ocean to reach 60 mph in 6.9 seconds. Ultra, Extreme and Ocean One models are all equipped with torque vectoring all-wheel drive. The Ultra model has an estimated power of 540 horsepower, which is enough to make a sprint from 0 to 60 in just 3.9 seconds. The Extreme and Ocean One variants should have 550 horsepower, enough to reach a speed of one mile to one minute in 3.6 seconds. The vehicle’s maximum towing capacity is an impressive 4,000 pounds.

Increasing Ocean's versatility, it will also support two-way charging, which means it can feed power directly into your home's power system during periods of high demand or power outages. For example, the Ford F-150 Lightning pickup also provides this potential life-saving function.

California mode is available for Ultra, Extreme and Ocean One models and is another innovative feature. Just press a button, it will automatically lower all the windows and the glass of the rear door, and open the sunroof to enjoy the open-air driving experience.

The back seat of Ocean should be spacious and comfortable.

Doggie Power Windows also offers the same three decoration levels. This allows you to lower the rearmost quarter windows on both sides of the cargo area so that your dog can stick his head out of the car. To improve safety, these windows are small enough to not jump or fall.

The ocean should open well. Fisker said: "Its handling is like a sports car. It's incredible", although it only has a traditional suspension, so there is no air suspension or magnetic dampers. Fisker Intelligent Pilot can be used in Extreme and Ocean One interiors to provide a series of driving assistance, including 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assistance, lane keeping assistance, etc. Redundant turn signal indicators installed high on the D-pillar further improve safety and make them easier for off-road truck drivers to see.

The production of Fisker Ocean is scheduled to start on November 17, 2022, which is one year after its public debut. The vehicle will be produced by Magna Steyr's carbon dioxide neutralization plant in Graz, Austria. In the future, electronics manufacturer Foxconn may assemble more of these products and other Fisker models in Lordstown, Ohio. The automaker plans to offer four different cars by 2025, including a small SUV that should start at less than $30,000.

As for pricing, the basic sports trim starts at US$37,499, which is very affordable. The mid-range Ultra model starts at US$49,999, and the Extreme version is priced at US$68,999. If you want one of the latter two decorations, you will have to wait because they will not be available until 2023. The first 5,000 examples will be Ocean One decorations, and their price will also be US$68,999. These advertised prices do not include delivery fees that have not yet been finalized and any available state or federal incentives. With such a wide spread, Ocean will compete with low-end models such as Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Rogue, and high-end models such as high-end Audi Q7 or Lincoln Aviator.

The rear end of this all-electric SUV is tidy.

You can now book one of these all-electric SUVs by paying a deposit of $250. To date, more than 19,000 drivers have raised their hands, and 70% of them have never owned an electric car before. You can also lease Ocean with a new flexible plan that includes a driving allowance of 30,000 miles per year and no long-term commitments. Yes, you can return the car at any time. If you do, Fisker will sublet it to other drivers at a lower price. The company will continue to do this for up to 12 years, after which the vehicle will be recycled. This flexible lease starts at US$379 per month, plus a one-time start-up and start-up fee of US$2,999.

Pulling Tesla, the automaker's goal is to sell directly to consumers, but it remains to be seen whether they can bypass the dealer franchise law. Fisker said he envisioned customers ordering cars from an app or website and then picking them up at home or from the company's distribution center. He also said that dealers are too expensive and will inevitably increase the price of his vehicles.

Delivery of the 2023 Fisker Ocean is scheduled to begin at the end of next year, so by the end of 2022, look for this stylish all-electric SUV on the roads of all parts of the world and all 50 states.
