It is recommended to use galvanized wire mesh to support tomatoes on your website. I know that the use of galvanized wire brings risks-a roll of standard galvanized wire I bought recommends washing hands before eating and avoiding repeated contact-so why this material is safe for growing food, especially when food and metal When the silk touches?

For many years, people have been drinking water from galvanized steel pipes and galvanized "tinware". Galvanized steel is not suitable for preparing acidic foods or beverages (especially for brewing), nor is it the best material for containers for your favorite beverages.

From the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics: "Zinc poisoning is mostly caused by ingestion of pesticides, inadvertent use of large doses of zinc salts (oral supplements), or drinking acidic juice or beer made with galvanized iron utensils."

The only real risk of galvanized steel fences is the inhalation of smoke during cutting, burning or welding, or inhalation of dust from grinding, etc. The warning labels on the wires are the creativity of some litigation departments. The most common cause of zinc poisoning is inhalation, not ingestion. As far as barbed wire is concerned, the only risk is the small amount of zinc powder that may be present. I am more worried about taking zinc supplements than I do with wires every week.

Therefore, I cannot think of any reason to worry about handling any type of galvanized wire mesh, or swimming in galvanized steel tanks, or drinking Ogallala aquifer water from galvanized steel pipes from galvanized reciprocating pumps powered by windmills, At the same time leaning on the galvanized steel windmill tower. However, if the galvanized metal is burning, I will definitely avoid producing yellow-white, zinc-containing smoke. If the galvanized steel is in the pickling solution, I would definitely avoid drinking or swimming in the sewage.

I will never worry about the galvanized wire of my tomato cage.
